About

I’m Laura Torres, a Colombian by luck and a proud Chicagoan by choice. My journey in the world of ceramics began in May 2022 at Elemental Ceramic Studio in Colombia, where I delved into various techniques, starting with hand building. After completing my first course, I embraced a new chapter at Tierra y Fuego Cerámica, an enchanting place nestled among mountains, enveloped by a nurturing, supportive, and joyous atmosphere. This beautiful little house was equipped with everything I needed to explore and master the slip casting technique, igniting a passion for creating beauty with clay.

When I arrived in Chicago 18 months ago, my journey into the world of ceramics continued. I eagerly joined The Pot Shop at Evanston for wheel throwing classes and headed to Little Street for hand building sessions. As if that wasn’t enough, I also became part of the vibrant community at Evanston Art Center and Morton College for ceramics classes. This transformative period has reignited my creativity, allowing me to delve into diverse techniques and discover new depths within myself. However, the most cherished aspect of this experience has been the opportunity to connect with incredible individuals who have imparted invaluable lessons on gratitude and patience, shaping my outlook on life.
